includes a Tipi in August
The Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center, located at 1118 West Cheyenne Road, offers the Family Art Series on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 am with a Native American theme. Students will put up a full size tipi, on loan from the Friends of Cheyenne Canon, in the Heritage Garden and then using yucca fronds for paint brushes students will create their own work of art while learning about the Ute Indians and the significance of color in their culture.
The gallery exhibit, which runs through the end of September, represents how Native cultures have influenced thenon-native experience. The eclectic exhibit primarily displays paintings collected by the Cheyenne Mountain School District over the years, but also includes works on loan from The Art Bank and local collectors. A tour of the gallery will precede the art lesson as inspiration for the students' own works.
