Charles R. Bunnell and The Broadmoor Art Academy

The Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center is proud to present a retrospective on the life and works of Charles R. Bunnell; Colorado Springs resident, Broadmoor Art Academy student and teacher. Blake Wilson, local art historian and owner of The Art Bank presented his insights into this painter's eclectic works and the possible motivations behind his designs.

Ongoing Exhibit

Visit our gallery and enjoy early photographs of Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 school buildings and student activities. The display of early dance costumes and cheerleading uniforms will bring back memories. The current exhibit includes displays of Native American pottery and baskets, Van Briggle sculptures and oil paintings by local artists.

The Lloyd Shaw educational display includes a replica of a roll-top desk, filing cabinet, chair and lamp from the time period Dr. Shaw was superintendent of Cheyenne Mountain Schools. The desk is outfitted with papers and contracts from his years in office. Other items on display include books and phonograph records from Lloyd Shaw's years as a square dance caller. Framed photographs feature views of early school buildings in the Cheyenne Mountain region.
