The Legend of the Sleeping DragonA long, long time ago the great god Manitou became very angry with his people on earth. He sent rain, rain and more rain until the earth was flooded. One day he looked down and saw many good people in trouble. They were bobbing in canoes and praying to him. He called his mighty dragon, Thirst, and sent him to earth to help the people in trouble. Thirst flew down to earth and drank and drank and drank until the water was gone. He then tried to fly back up to the great god Manitou, but he was so heavy he couldn’t make it and crashed! Manitou turned him into a mountain so all that saw him would remember how they were saved from the flood. Look at the dragon. Do you see our Cheyenne Mountain? We would love to see your drawing or artwork of the Cheyenne Mountain Sleeping Dragon. Please mail us your art to: Cheyenne Mountain Heritage Center
